Your
children's first visit
Your children should have their first dental visit at about 12 months
of age. This gives us an opportunity to review their unique dental needs
with you. As with many aspects of parenting,
your children depend on you to tend to their dental care until they have
reached an age when they take care of it for themselves. We also use
this opportunity to outline the role of nutrition in solid dental development.
Of course, your child’s early visits give us an opportunity to
diagnose any difficulties immediately, and begin to develop a complete
dental history.
Start your kids off right with good dental care habits.
Brushing & Flossing
Of course, until your children are able to properly brush and floss
their own teeth, you will have to do it for them. There are a couple
of things to keep in mind as you do:
Use a thin coating of toothpaste on the brush, about the size of small
pea. (See photo)
Brush and floss gently, and try to make the process fun—try to
get your children to enjoy taking care of their teeth.
Brushing a toddler or young child’s teeth can be a frustrating
task, but please persevere as the alternative (cavities and consequently
fillings) is even less desirable.
