As part of the British Columbia economy reopening plan Premier John Horgan has announced Phase 2 will begin May 19. Dental offices will be a part of this phase; however, we are waiting for new guidelines from both The College of Dental Surgeons of BC and Worksafe BC. Until these guidelines are released please understand that we are unsure of what PPE (personal protective equipment) is required in this “New Normal”. We will also face challenges procuring PPE as all other dental offices in BC and across Canada are doing the same thing. The provincially proposed reopen date of May 19 is therefore highly optimistic and unlikely. We want to reassure everyone that the safety of patients and staff is of utmost concern. Consequently, the BC Dental Association has put together a task force that will assist dentists across the province on the necessary changes with enhanced PPE, patient screening, physical distancing in our offices, and the type of treatment we will be permitted to provide. As part of this first phase of dental practices reopening the focus will be on managing emergencies and patients in pain, it is unlikely that we will be able to book routine care or schedule elective appointments.
We want to thank all our patients for your continued support and understanding during this unprecedented time and as we are working hard to reopen our office. We hope your family and loved ones continue to remain safe and healthy and look forward to seeing everyone in our office again.
